DMCS 820 – Optimizing Your DM Program & Ensuring Legislative Compliance

This four-week online introductory course is designed for HR professionals, supervisors, health and safety professionals, and managers with little or no prior experience in disability management (DM) and return-to-work (RTW). Participants develop a strong foundation in the principles, practices, and legal and regulatory considerations of DM and RTW while gaining practical tools they can apply within their own organizations. The aim is to not only learn foundational knowledge plus ensure regulatory and legal compliance but to also take a reflective, self-development approach to the topic of DM inasmuch that the course provides an important opportunity to reflect and assess current strengths, skills, competencies, and knowledge in order to identify gaps.

Beyond individual learning, the course focuses on organizational readiness and capacity to establish, strengthen, or optimize a workplace disability management program. Participants explore the policies, processes, resources, leadership support, and organizational culture required to create an effective and sustainable DM program. Particular attention is given to fostering a workplace culture that supports prevention, early intervention, accommodation, and successful return-to-work outcomes. The course concludes by bringing these elements together in a practical workplace improvement plan. Participants identify priority areas for action and consider how DM initiatives can be evaluated and communicated through meaningful measures of outcomes, organizational impact, and return on investment (ROI).
